The Las Vegas Strip is approx. a year and a half away from adding one of the world’s finest hotels to its roster - and its name is ARIA Resort & Casino. On Monday, May 19th 2008, MGM is expected to make an announcement that the 61-story center attraction of its approx. $9.2-billion mega-resort CityCenter development has been named. Just as most experts agreed, the cost to build luxury condominiums on the Las Vegas Strip would have to increase because of land prices and construction costs, putting that much more emphasis on prime-location properties. Case and point? What was once thought to be a $6 billion or so development, MGM recently announced that the total cost to build its CityCenter project has now increased to over $9 billion. With construction crews from the Perini Building Company working feverishly, the first glass has been installed on The Harmon Hotel, Spa & Residences at MGM MIRAGE CityCenter on the Las Vegas Strip. This in addition to glass also now being installed on Veer Towers. Recently, it was announced that Sands Corp.’s Palazzo Resort Hotel Casino on the Las Vegas Strip had been awarded Silver LEED Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. According to GlobeSt.com, the USGBC named the approx. 3,000 room, multi-billion-dollar resort, the largest LEED-certified building in the world (saying it was four times larger than any other “green” project in the world). In a confident move based on several factors, MGM MIRAGE raised prices 3% at CityCenter (across the board), on March 1st, 2008. While penthouse pricing wasn’t affected, all other condominium units at Veer Towers, Mandarin Oriental, Vdara Condo Hotel, and The Harmon Residences experienced the price increase. As the U.S. media continues to spread doom and gloom, several recent successes on the Las Vegas Strip cannot be denied.
