How much can I list my 22nd story banana farm for? 30-story high rise farm coming to Las Vegas?!

3 major announcements regarding green construction and practices have hit full force in Nevada recently. MGM MIRAGE CityCenter going after LEED certification from the U.S. Green Council…completed construction of the world’s third largest solar array…and now a 30-story high rise farm that would be used to grow different kinds of fruit and vegetables for the local casinos?

What would it be?

A 30-story vertical farm dedicated to 100 different types of crops such as fruit and vegetables. Each floor will be separately controlled depending on what type of environment is necessary for the crops found on that level.

Would you like condos with your head of lettuce?

This building would not feature luxury residential condominiums or condo hotel units.

Rendering of the gorgeous building.

Facts on farm land

The majority of Earths farm land is already accounted for, while a large share of its population chooses to live in or near urban areas. Vertical farming is a wonderful solution to a shortage of farm land while at the same time bringing crops close to home!

How will it benefit Las Vegas?

This 30-story property will become yet another MUST SEE attraction for those visiting Las Vegas. The project could generate up to $40 million in annual revenue through produce sales to local casinos as well as generate additional revenue from visitor tours etc.

Completion and Location

The developers say plans should be complete in 2008 with construction completing in 2010. No word on location.

Is Nevada turning into the World’s leader of sustainable living?

With an ample supply of desert and sun, state-of-the-art solar power plants could soon fill the desert. With developments such as Mandarin Oriental, Veer Towers, Vdara, and The Harmon Hotel all going green, the eco-friendly Sin City is a hit. It seems lawmakers here want to prove a point that Nevada has much more going for it than gaming. So far, they are proving that point!
